Our All Spanish classes will take place in my home garden and outdoor classroom in Del Aire, Ca (Hawthorne). Home to my Spanish Immersion SUMMER Camp! I'm partnered with Healing Gardens and have created a safe, beautiful garden space with an outdoor classroom tailored to hold class and enjoy learning outside!

At My Spanish Immersion Fall and Winter Classes are 3 hours long. 10am to 1pm. Allowing for enough time to tend to the garden, have circle time and welcome, facilitate lessons that encourage Spanish listening, speaking, reading, writing, music, movement, cooking and of course gardening!

Featured Activity: Planting a Winter Vegetable Garden
Garden Experience: Kick off the Fall garden fun at My Escuelita! Student gardeners will get their hands in the soil to dig planting beds, learn Spanish vocabulary for autumn vegetables (zanahorias, espinacas, rábanos), and plant winter crop seeds side by side while practicing conversational phrases. Children will explore what plants need to grow and become stewards of the garden as they learn about soil, seeds, water, sunlight, and caring for our earth. We’ll enjoy seasonal Spanish-language books, songs, movement, and garden games that encourage children to listen, talk, move, and connect new vocabulary to what they see and do in the garden.

Featured Activity: Creating a Family Roots & Traditions Garden Collage
Garden Experience: Children will go on a sensory scavenger hunt around the garden to collect fallen leaves, flower petals, and twigs, then use their treasures to create custom botanical collages while sharing their favorite family traditions in Spanish. Students will learn about the root systems of plants and trees and how plants communicate with one another. We’ll explore similarities and differences in how plants, families, and communities grow, connect, and communicate. Seasonal literature, music, movement, and garden games will invite children to explore the ideas of roots, family, belonging, and traditions while building Spanish vocabulary through natural conversation and hands-on discovery.

Featured Activity: Pumpkin Science, Pumpkin Patch Fun, Baking Pumpkin Bread, and Costumes!
Garden Experience: Parents, get your cameras ready! Garden students will explore our mini pumpkin patch, measure and weigh different pumpkins and gourds while practicing Spanish, investigate pumpkin science, and scoop out seeds to dry and save—some for baking and some for planting in next spring’s garden. Children will explore how pumpkins grow, compare shapes and sizes, count seeds, and investigate questions such as what makes a pumpkin float or sink. We’ll also have plenty of creative fun with pumpkin painting and our Pumpkin Painting Contest, plus, of course, pumpkin carving! Seasonal books, pumpkin songs, movement, and garden games will bring the theme to life, and children will help bake pumpkin bread as part of our harvest experience. Costumes are welcomed!

Espantapájaros y Cempasúchil / Scarecrows & Marigolds
Featured Activity: Making a Scarecrow, Planting Cempasúchil Seeds, Creating a Día de los Muertos Ofrenda, and Sugar Skull Art.
Garden Experience: Children will assemble a real garden scarecrow using bamboo stakes and straw, then plant bright orange cempasúchil (marigold) seeds in pots to take home while singing seasonal songs. We’ll learn about Día de los Muertos, an important tradition celebrated in Mexico and throughout Latin America, and explore how families create altars (ofrendas) to honor and remember loved ones. Together, we’ll create our own garden altar using cempasúchil flowers and vegetables from our garden. Children will have a special time to reflect on the people and animals they love and create a memorial frame decorated with flowers from the garden. Stories, music, songs, and movement will help children connect with the traditions we are exploring, while hands-on garden games and activities encourage Spanish conversation and community sharing. Costumes are welcome!

Featured Activity: Indigenous Traditions, Exploring Corn Through Art and Tasting, and Making Tortillas from Scratch.
Garden Experience: Kids will shuck heirloom corn stalks right in the garden bed, examine and compare different varieties, and grind corn kernels into a coarse meal. We’ll explore how corn is transformed into foods such as tortillas while enjoying a fresh corn tortilla tasting. Children will also create Indigenous-inspired plant arts and crafts using natural materials from the garden, exploring how leaves, flowers, corn husks, seeds, and other plants can be used to create beautiful and meaningful artwork. Through Spanish conversation, storytelling, and hands-on making, we’ll celebrate maíz as a gift from the earth and honor the knowledge and traditions of Indigenous communities.

Manos a la Tierra / Hands in the Earth
Featured Activity: Harvesting and Sharing a Meal, Gratitude, Indigenous Peoples of Los Angeles, and the Farm-to-Table Process.
Garden Experience: Little hands will harvest fresh herbs, salad greens, and seasonal vegetables directly from our garden, wash them at the outdoor watering station, and prepare a simple garden salad to share together at our picnic table. As we harvest, we’ll practice gratitude for our food and for the many people who help bring food to our tables, including farmers, gardeners, and farmworkers. Children will also learn about the Indigenous peoples who have cared for the land we now call Los Angeles for generations, including the Tongva (Gabrielino) and Tataviam peoples, and explore the importance of respecting and caring for la tierra. Through hands-on gardening, Spanish conversation, storytelling, and sharing a meal, children will connect food, community, culture, and gratitude.

Featured Activity: December Holidays and Traditions in Latin America, Tamales, Tamale-Making Workshop, and Sharing a Meal.
Garden Experience: Children will snip fresh cilantro and epazote from our garden pots, prepare corn husks outdoors, and learn how to spread the masa, add fillings, fold, and assemble their own child-friendly mini tamales. We’ll then steam our tamales and enjoy them together during class, turning our garden harvest into a shared meal. Along the way, children will practice conversational culinary vocabulary in Spanish while learning about the Indigenous roots of tamales, the importance of maíz, and the many ways tamales are prepared across Latin America. Our experience will also include culturally affirming literature, including Too Many Tamales by Gary Soto, along with selected books from Con Todo Press and Naibe Reynoso, connecting stories, family traditions, food, language, and community.

Garden Wishes and Planting Intentions for the New Year, Celebrating Puerto Rico’s Año Viejo, and Counting Down to the New Year!
Garden Experience: We’ll celebrate Año Viejo and New Year traditions from Puerto Rico and Latin America, learning about the meaning of saying goodbye to the old year and welcoming the new one. Children will join in a fun countdown, reflect on special memories, and learn about Los Reyes Magos and Día de los Reyes, a beloved tradition celebrated across Puerto Rico and Latin America. Kids will write or draw secret wishes and intentions on biodegradable seed paper, plant them in garden pots, and sprinkle them with winter wildflower seeds to sprout in the new year. We’ll also make a child-friendly coquito-inspired coconut drink to raise a festive toast to the New Year—¡Salud! Through Spanish conversation, stories, music, and hands-on gardening, children will connect new beginnings, family traditions, nature, and growth.

Featured Activity: Letter Writing to the Three Kings, Mi Burrito Sabanero, Making Three Kings Crowns, and Rosca de Reyes Celebration. PAJAMA NIGHT!!
Garden Experience: We’ll celebrate Los Reyes Magos by learning about the Three Kings and the traditions surrounding Día de los Reyes in Puerto Rico, Mexico, and across Latin America. Children will create their own Three Kings crowns, bake and decorate mini Roscas de Reyes to enjoy together, and prepare a small box with hay for the camels. We’ll connect the celebration to our garden by exploring the idea of caring for animals and sharing what we have with others. Through stories, Spanish conversation, music, and hands-on activities, children will learn about the meaning of generosity, family, community, and the excitement of leaving something special out for the Three Kings and their camels. A little surprise will be sent home for parents to place in their child’s shoes that evening, ready to discover the next morning!

Featured Activity: Celebrating the Year of the Goat Through Garden Art, Cultural Traditions, and New Year Wishes.
Garden Experience: We’ll welcome Lunar New Year and celebrate the Year of the Goat through garden art, cultural traditions, and new beginnings. Children will explore the garden for natural materials, observe seasonal changes, and talk about how gardens can provide food, shelter, and beauty throughout the year. They’ll create vibrant paper lanterns using natural watercolor paints made from beet and berry juices, then write or draw New Year wishes to hang from garden branches, creating a colorful display of hopes for the year ahead. Children will harvest fresh garden greens to feed our friendly garden visitors while learning about caring for animals, composting, growing food, and the relationships between plants, animals, and people. We’ll also explore how goats can be part of sustainable garden systems, helping children think about food, farming, caring for the land, and cycles of growth. Through hands-on art, Spanish conversation, stories, music, and garden exploration, children will celebrate new beginnings, creativity, gratitude, stewardship, and community.
